Meth arrests come from broken down car near jail

WOLF LAKE — It can takes weeks if not months to get the break police officers need to make a case in a drug investigation.
Or sometimes they can show up at their front door.
Police allege a car which broke down outside the parking lot of the Noble County Jail, 210 S. 7th St., Albion, on Wednesday eventually led them to a home where methamphetamine was being manufactured. A Wolf Lake husband and wife were arrested.

SWAT Teams converge on Kendallville for training

Getting defensive – Tactics training now required for all officers

ALBION — In police parlance, it’s called going “hands-on” — a physical confrontation with a combative person.
Starting this year, all officers in the Hoosier state forced to deal with these potentially dangerous situations are going to be a little more prepared.
For the first time, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy has mandated each active duty police officer receive at least two hours of defensive tactics training annually.

Noble County on record meth lab pace

ALBION — Noble County is on a record pace for meth lab busts this year, the Noble County Council heard Monday.
Council members asked Noble County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Doug Harp if there was any sign the methamphetamine problem in Noble County was easing after it had the most meth lab busts in the state in 2008 and its second most on record.

Special operations team trains in church

KENDALLVILLE – It could happen anywhere — even in a church.
The Noble County Special Operations Group (NCSOG), Noble County’s emergency response police unit, held special training Thursday morning inside Grace Christian Church in Kendallville. Officers from the Kendallville Police Department and Noble County Sheriff’s Department participated in the training, which included active shooter and hostage scenarios.

Substance abuse program

Noble County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Doug Harp recently addressed more than 40 Parkview Noble Hospital staff members as part of a special program on substance abuse. Harp focused on the dangers of methamphetamine and other illegal drugs.

One-pot method highly volatile, dangerous

Indiana State Trooper Rob Smith is a member of the State Police Clandestine Lab Team and a member of the department’s Meth Suppression Unit. He said this week he was unsure why Noble County leads the state in meth labs processed by police, but blamed the one-pot cooking method for the high numbers being seen throughout the four-county area.

Firearms, body armor found at meth lab 9 arrested in separate busts

KENDALLVILLE — Police acting on a pair of tips arrested six individuals and seized military-style body armor and a pair of firearms at an active methamphetamine lab this morning across the street from the East Noble School Corp. administrative office and less than one block from the police station.
